Reclaiming October contains the poignant story of Damien, a US Army veteran who survived his deployment to Iraq only to have the trauma of that war follow him home. Diagnosed with PTSD, assistance and treatment eluded him and his family. On October 14, 2013, Damien succumbed to the pain that tortured him for many years.
Conni Lee, his mother, tells her story of the trials and challenges she faced after Damien’s death. She provides an intimate look into her grief journey, all the highs and lows, the suffering, and eventually accepting the death of her younger child. She shares the therapies, methods, and tools she learned in the hope that other survivors of traumatic losses find validation, peace, and growth as they navigate their own journey.
Conni Lee is a retired engineer, writer, improvisor, and standup comedian. She provides community talks on suicide prevention awareness, lobbies for suicide prevention programs, and shares Damien’s story to all who will listen. Visit Conni here
